Green Bay, WI — The City of Green Bay has reached a significant milestone with an agreement to relocate the C. Reiss coal piles from their location along the downtown Fox River waterfront. This development comes after years of community advocacy and marks a new chapter for the city's waterfront and the Port of Green Bay.

Mayor Eric Genrich described the agreement as "a defining moment for Green Bay, Brown County and Northeast Wisconsin." He emphasized that this step forward is the result of "persistence, partnership, and a shared commitment to realizing our community’s full potential." Mayor Genrich expressed gratitude towards several key figures and entities involved in reaching this agreement, including Brown County Executive Troy Streckenbach, Chairman Pat Buckley, C. Reiss leadership, Governor Evers, DOA Secretary Blumenfeld, and others.

The agreement outlines that C. Reiss will lease 16 acres at the former Pulliam Power Plant site for bulk commodity storage. The coal piles will be moved to the Fox River Terminal site in an industrial area north of downtown. This relocation involves a 60-year lease with annual payments from C. Reiss to Brown County starting at $350,000 and adjusted every five years according to the Consumer Price Index.

The current 35-acre coal storage site will be redeveloped into a mixed-use area on its northernmost 10 acres while maintaining modern industrial or port use to the south. Initial projections estimate over $150 million in new economic activity resulting from this redevelopment.

The City of Green Bay plans to allocate up to $2.2 million to support these efforts, pending affirmation by its Common Council on June 10.
