On June 13, 2025, Rep. Wied expressed concerns about public safety in American communities. He criticized Governor Newsom and Mayor Bass for allegedly prioritizing "violent extremists ahead of public safety." To address this issue, he announced the introduction of the SAFE Cities Act, which aims to withhold federal funds from jurisdictions that "enable anarchy to flourish."
