Grad 01

Luxemburg-Casco School District issued the following announcement on May 27.

The Luxemburg-Casco High School Class of 2021, comprised of 157 students, will receive their diplomas on May 26 at 6:30 p.m. during a commencement ceremony held on the field of the L-C football stadium. The event will adhere to all guidelines of the Kewaunee County Public Health Department.

Madelyn Leppiaho, daughter of John and Angie Leppiaho of Luxemburg, is the valedictorian of the Class of 2021. Kayla Dufek, daughter of Larry and Patricia Dufek of New Franken, is the salutatorian. Dufek will provide the ceremony’s Welcome message, while Leppiaho will offer the Farewell address.

Allison Naze, 2021 L-C Class Vice President, will deliver a Class Review speech. The motto of the Class of 2021 is, “Everybody has a story, we made history.”

Following an address by District Superintendent Glenn Schlender and presentation of the Class of 2021 by Principal Troy Haws, the L-C Board of Education will award diplomas to this year’s graduates.

“This group of seniors has persevered through a global pandemic, not to mention a construction project in and around the high school building for more than a year,” says Haws. “Along with their academic preparation, we believe they are more than ready to go out into the world beyond L-C. We are sad to see them leave, but excited to see what’s ahead. They will forever be Spartans!”

Forty-eight percent (76 students) of this year’s graduating class plan to continue their education at a four-year, post-secondary institution. Fifty-five of those students will attend a University of Wisconsin System university; UW-Green Bay is the top choice with 24 seniors choosing the school.

Thirty-five percent (55 students) of the L-C Class of 2021 will be furthering their education at a state technical college. The majority of those students – 44 – have chosen to attend Northeast Wisconsin Technical College.

Of the 131 seniors who plan to attend a two- or four-year institution, more than 98 percent (129) plan to stay in Wisconsin for college.

Twelve 2021 students plan to enter the workforce upon graduation, while one senior has elected military service with the U.S. Marines.

At the graduation ceremony, 17 Honor Students will be recognized for representing the Top 10 percent of their graduating class. They are:

• Madelyn Leppiaho

• Kayla Dufek

• Hannah Derenne

• Maia Geniesse

• Jillian Lynts

• Tanner Alsteen

• McKenzie Hanson

• Alexandria Wech

• Morgan Detampel

• Abigail Sternard

• Allison Naze

• Sylvia Sampo

• Tyler Kollross

• Alena Feldt

• Benjamin Willems

• Ryan Robillard

• Julia Hanmann

Another honor to be bestowed at this year’s graduation is the Distinguished Alumni Award, given to Mrs. Debra Marcelle-Crocker, a 1973 graduate of Luxemburg-Casco High School.

The graduation ceremony also will feature music performed by the L-C High School Band, along with the Chamber Choir and Women’s Choir.

In the event of inclement weather, the commencement ceremony will be moved into the main high school gymnasium with graduate guest limitations.

The 157-member graduating class of Luxemburg-Casco High School in 2021 represents its largest class in four years. The Class of 2017 had 161 graduates.

Approximately 60 student scholarships will be announced the morning of May 26 at the Senior Awards Ceremony. More than a dozen post-secondary institutions also have bestowed scholarships upon L-C students.

Ahnapee Youth Apprenticeship Certifications – in 12 different Career Clusters – additionally will be conferred. There will be special recognition of those students transitioning into a Registered Apprenticeship Program.
