A bridge in downtown Green Bay was renamed after late Green Bay Packers quarterback Bart Starr last week to honor his legacy with the team.

Originally called the Walnut Street Bridge, the bridge over the Fox River is now the Bart Starr Memorial Bridge.

"Bart Starr was an important part to not only the @packers, but this community as well. Honoring Bart by renaming the Walnut St. Bridge to the Bart Starr Memorial Bridge was a small token of appreciation to this great man," said Sen. Eric Wimberger in a tweet.

Starr, who passed away in 2019, was with the Packers for 16 seasons over 15 years, and his time on the team lead them to five different NFL titles, including the first two Super Bowls ever played. He then went on to serve as the team's head coach from 1975 to 1983.

One of four bridges in Green Bay crossing the Fox River, this was the last to be renamed, following the other three that are named after an influential businessman, another former Packer and a former mayor.

As part of State Highway 29, the bridge required legislatures to get state approval in addition to the governor’s signature before officially renaming the former Walnut Street bridge, according to Fox11.
