Shortly after midnight on Tuesday, Sept. 28, police discovered a man’s dead body on the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay (UWGB) campus.

Police discovered the body while responding to a call of a small grass fire on the campus near the entrance to the Arboretum walking path. First responders put out the fire and discovered a body nearby. The victim was a male in his 20s or 30s, light skinned with short dark hair, and approximately six feet tall and authorities say they needed help identifying the victim, according to FOX 11 News.

"We don’t think that the public is in any immediate danger. But certainly a disturbing situation," Captain Ben Allen of the Green Bay Police Department said in a statement, according to FOX 11 News.

The death is being treated as a homicide, but students at UWGB report they are frustrated with the lack of information surrounding the event. The university has declined to comment due to the ongoing investigation, according to NBC 26 News.

"We’ve been getting a lot of emails about how there was, like, a dead body found, and something about a fire, and how we shouldn’t be worried about it, which is kind of concerning. They just told us not to worry about it, like, there’s police activity, but it’s ok, don’t worry," UWGB sophomore Reima Abusalma told NBC 26 news.

According to WHBL News, authorities allegedly have some leads in the investigation, but are keeping them private for now.

In 2019, UWGB reported 183 safety related incidents involving students on or near campus, which was more than 3,571 of the 3,990 colleges surveyed that reported crime and safety data, according to College Factual. However, only 7.1% of those incidents were "arrests for major crimes."
