An alder in Green Bay is calling for change to ensure fair and transparent elections, WLUK reported.

"Our No. 1 job and role is just to run an open and fair election," Alder Chris Wery said during a meeting of the Protection and Policy Committee, the station reported. "That's it."

The use of outside money for elections, as well as curing processes, were brought up during the recent meeting.

The city received criticism after past elections, namely the April 2020 election and the November 2020 election.

More detailed discussion is planned for the next common council meeting on March 1.

The committee voted to refer staff to research and draft a possible ordinance regarding the use of outside money for elections, WLUK reported.

"I think moving forward, I feel confident that we can come up with some good things," Green Bay Alder Mark Steuer said, the station reported. "There might be some good things in process right now but we just want clarity and transparency and all that as well."
