A new disc golf course designed by Cale Leiviska is set to open on the UW-Green Bay campus on Saturday, August 17, 2024. The course, part of Shorewood Park, features natural beauty including woods, rolling elevation, a ravine, and water hazards.

Jeff Krueger, director of University Recreation (URec) and Kress Events Center Operations, emphasized the course's appeal for both seasoned players and beginners. “This course is amazing, offering holes that will challenge the seasoned disc golfer, and allow beginners to experience the fun of disc golf,” Krueger stated. He highlighted the potential for community building around this new outdoor space.

Leiviska, who holds a degree in Conservation Biology and has a background in Forest Management, designed the course with an aim to preserve its natural surroundings. He will be present at the opening event to throw the first disc and discuss his vision for the course.

Shorewood Park has been developed over two years into a multi-use community space featuring cross-country trails, ski trails, an ROTC land navigation course, and ecological restoration efforts through the Cofrin Biodiversity Center.

Disc Golf is gaining popularity in Wisconsin and nationwide as it provides opportunities for social interaction, team building, exercise, and mental wellness. The new course supports these activities while furthering Shorewood property's goal of becoming a destination for both students and the community.

The project received support from UW-Green Bay Student Government Association and the University of Wisconsin – Green Bay Foundation. Additional contributions are encouraged through the Shorewood Fund via UW-Green Bay Foundation’s website.
