The Howard-Suamico School District (HSSD) announced that the local Zeta chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma (DKG) hosted a literary competition earlier this year, where several HSSD students earned awards. The announcement was made in a press release on April 3, 2025.

According to the press release, the contest was open to students in grades 3-12 across Wisconsin and encouraged entries focused on personal narratives or fantasy/science fiction stories, with word limits for each grade level and illustrations required. On March 11, 2025, the local winners were recognized at a ceremony held at the Brown County Library in Green Bay. Among the local winners from HSSD were River Christenson, Bennett Peters, Hayley Carriere, Mason Boucher, and Elliot and Nora Thibaudeau.

Christenson's book, "How a Furby Became President of the Moon," earned an art award for her illustrations. Peters' "The Best & Worst Day on the Bay" placed third in the state for fifth grade. This marked Peters' second time earning recognition at the state level. Both Christenson and Peters will attend the DKG Wisconsin state convention on May 3, 2025, to receive their awards.
