Green Bay Water has announced the commencement of its yearly water main flushing program on Monday, April 28, 2025. This program is vital for maintaining the safety and reliability of Green Bay's drinking water system.
As part of the procedure, Utility crews will open fire hydrants across the city. This allows water to flow at high speeds, effectively removing accumulated sediment or mineral build-up in the water mains. Residents might experience temporary water discoloration or cloudiness during this process, but the safety and quality of the water remain intact.
The Utility advises checking water clarity before using it for drinking, cooking, or laundry. If the water is discolored, running it for a few minutes should clear it up.
To keep residents informed, Green Bay Water has provided a GIS map on their website, gbwater.org, tracking the program's progress. The map shows areas already flushed and those scheduled for future service.
"The flushing program may cause temporary inconvenience to our customers, but it is necessary to maintain the safety and reliability of our drinking water system," stated Green Bay Water General Manager Brian Powell. "We encourage customers to stay informed by checking the GIS map on our website and contacting us if they have any questions or concerns."
Green Bay Water Utility emphasizes its dedication to delivering safe and reliable drinking water alongside exceptional service to the community. Customer cooperation during the annual flushing program is appreciated. Further details on the flushing process are available through their website’s FAQ page.
