Green Bay is set to host an AmeriCorps Earth Day and Arbor Day event just days before the city welcomes the 2025 NFL Draft. Mayor Eric Genrich, State Representative Amaad Rivera-Wagner, and Conservation Corps Coordinator Maria Otto announced the initiative on March 17, 2025.
Scheduled for Tuesday, April 22, 2025, from 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM at the Bay Beach Wildlife Sanctuary, the event will engage over 300 volunteers in activities such as tree planting, trail improvements, invasive species removal, and park clean-up.
Mayor Genrich stated, “This is a fantastic partnership between the city and our Conservation Corps to put our best foot forward to celebrate Earth Day and to make sure that our community is looking fantastic as we have hundreds of thousands of visitors coming to the City of Green Bay.”
Maria Otto explained the funding behind this initiative: “We are an Americorps program, funded federally and through the state. This volunteer opportunity came to us because we got additional funding through the Volunteer Generation Fund, which was awarded to us through the state.”
The collaboration between Green Bay and AmeriCorps highlights a commitment to environmental conservation and community involvement while preparing for visitors attending the NFL Draft. The Bay Beach Wildlife Sanctuary provides an ideal setting for this eco-friendly effort due to its educational programs and wildlife rehabilitation work.
Volunteers must pre-register online. Parking will be available at Bay Beach Amusement Park.
